November Newsletter 2017

Looking out my Manitoba window on October 26, 2017, it certainly looks like winter out there! Although this snowfall will soon melt – at least I HOPE it will – it is a reminder that we need to start getting ready for the winter season of Legion events.

  Visit our website at www.RCLBranch52.com

Poppies – help with the Poppy Drive if you can, and if you can’t, at least please buy and wear a Poppy!
Legion Week is November 05 to November 11. As always, we will have our annual Vets’ Dinner and Dance on the Saturday prior, that is, November 04. Tickets are available from the Club Room; call 204-467-2261. Cocktails are at 5:30; dinner at 6:30; dance in the Club Room at 8 with Sonny and the Hurricanes, a country band.
Other events in November include the annual Craft Sale put on in the Hall by the Seniors Group. Come out and do some Christmas shopping, visit with friends, and enjoy a hot lunch.
Don’t forget that November 30 is the final day of Early Bird Pricing for your membership renewal. You don’t want to miss out on the savings.   Regular members pay $40.00, while those over 70 years of age pay $35.00.
Remembrance Day will be celebrated in the Legion Hall at 10:45 a.m. on November 11. Volunteers to set up the stage and chairs are welcome; call 204-467-2261. Although the service starts at 10:45, the event is always well-attended, so early arrival is advisable if you want a seat.
At the November meeting, on November 14, we will be taking Nominations for the 2018 Executive, with elections being held at the December meeting.
And speaking of December, we have a lot of events planned for that month.  On December 02, everyone is welcome to join us for Breakfast With Santa from 9-noon.
There will be a Bake Sale in the Hall spanning two days – Friday, December 08 and Saturday, December 09.
One of our most popular events is the annual Christmas Eve Afternoon in the Club Room, with food and prizes. This year it will be on Saturday, December 23 from about  pm onward; the Club Room closes for the holiday at 6 pm. It will remain closed on December 24, 25 and 26. See you again on December 27!
New Year’s Eve will be celebrated in the Club Room with Halo Jump, starting at 8 pm. There will be a cover charge of $5.00, and finger food will be provided.
Come out on Wednesday nights for Chase the Queen! Take a chance! Win some cash! Have some fun!

For better communication, Dominion Command is requesting all Members’ email addresses; simply send an email to   dminfo@legion.ca. Another new thing coming down the pipe is an improved Member Application Form. Previously, the routine was to fill in the Application, pay your dues, and attend an initiation in order to become a full-fledged Legion member. Now the Initiation portion of the process has been included on the Application form, so you never have to attend at all! Of course we would all like to see you come out to the Legion and socialize, but the initiation just does not fit everyone’s schedule. This way, you can more easily become a Member.
