Here in Manitoba we got an early taste of winter before Thanksgiving. Now we are heading into fall for real, and it is time to thing about the reason for the season – REMEMBRANCE DAY. Branch #52 will hold a Remembrance Day Service in the hall on November 11, starting at 10:45. Come early; there is always a good turnout and space is not infinite, even though we have the biggest hall in town.

On December 24 we will have our annual Christmas Eve Day party in the club room, with food, fellowship and entertainment. Come out and join us between 2 and 6 p.m. The Club Room will close at 6 p.m. and will remain closed on December 25 and December 26.

We will have two opportunities to enjoy the musical stylings of The Marvels this season. They will be playing at the Vets Dinner and Dance on November 2, and again at our New Year’s Eve party in the Club Room on December 31. The Vets Dinner begins with cocktails at 5 pm, goes on to dinner and presentations at 6 pm, and continues at 8 pm with the dance. Tickets are available in the Club Room at $15.00 each; advance only. For New Year’s Eve tickets, call the Club Room at 204 467 2261.

The Club Room will be CLOSED on January 1; have a happy New Year everyone!

This fall we followed the same pattern as last year in NOT having a Fall Supper; instead we will present the Second Annual Spring Fling on March 15 – save the date!

The Friday Night Meat Draws continue to be successful, and the Saturday Afternoon Meat Draws (the last Saturday of the month only) have become a regular fixture on our Club Room calendar as well. Come out and join us! Mingle with the members! Win some meat!

Coming down to join us at the Legion, you will see that our Club Room has a beautiful new floor covering. Thanks to Maintenance Manager Gord Deprez for the all his hard work in organizing this major project. And it came in under budget, too!

September Newsletter 2019

September is here. The kids are going back to school. Extra-curricular activities, including Cadets, are starting up again. Legion Week is fast approaching – September 15-21. It is a busy time!

A major Legion Week event here at Branch #52 is the Road 2 Recovery fundraiser BBQ on Sept. 21. Ruck to Remember is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting Veterans. Every year for the past 5 years they have organized a multi-day ruck march in Ontario, covering 2 km for every Veteran that died in the previous year. The event is leveraged to raise funds for the Royal Canadian Legion’s “Operation:  Leave the Streets Behind” and has succeeded in raising both awareness and funds to the tune of over $100K for that charity.
Team Ruck 2 Remember Presents “Road 2 Recovery 2019 – 1st Annual Keystone Edition”. This is a 150km ruck march to keep veterans off the streets. To register or donate:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/ruck-2-remember-manitoba OR admin@ruck2remember.com .

The Ruck to Remember Manitoba --  Road 2 Recovery 2019 1st Annual Keystone Edition -- proposed route for September 19-22, 2019, is:
Day 1 – Lac du Bonnet to Beausejour (46.9 km) – arriving 5:00 on Thurs., Sept. 19
Day 2 – Beausejour to Selkirk (35.1 km) arriving 5:00 on Friday, Sept. 20
Day 3 – Selkirk to Stonewall (35.6 km) arriving 5:00 on Saturday, Sept. 21
Day 4 – Stonewall to Winnipeg (35.9 km) arriving 5:00 on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Here at Branch #52 in Stonewall, we are having a fundraising BBQ in support of Road 2 Recovery, starting at 5pm and running to 7 or 7:30pm; we will have our local Air Cadet Squadron (301 Alan McLeod) helping us out for the BBQ as well.

Members night will follow the BBQ, starting at 8pm.

As usual, the Branch will hold Meat Draw every Friday evening, and also on the last Saturday of each month. Come on out, enjoy the camaraderie, and take chance on winning some meat!

The Club Room will be closed on September 02 for Labour Day, and on Oct. 14 for Thanksgiving Day.

Crib starts in October; call the Branch at 204-467-2261 for details.

Thanks to all who participated in the Friday Night BBQs over the summer, and to the many volunteers who made Quarry Days such a success. We could not have done it without you!

July Newsletter 2019

JULY 2019 Newsletter
Branch No. 52 in Stonewall, MB is getting into the summer swing of things!
On June 2 we had our annual Decoration Day Parade, marching from the Branch to the Cenotaph. Thank you to all who participated in any way.
Our summer Barbecues are being held on Friday nights, in the Club Room from 5:30 until 7 or so. Friday Meat Draws are always popular, from 6:30 until about 8. To volunteer for either of these activities, call the Branch at 204 467 2261. There is also a Meat Draw on the last Saturday afternoon of each month, at 3 p.m.
The big event of our summer is of course Quarry Days, from August 16 – 18. There will be Beer Gardens in the afternoons on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; pancake breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday; and live entertainment Friday night and Saturday night. For details, call the Club Room. There is still time to get your name on the volunteer list for the weekend, if you are so inclined. Many hand make light work after all!
Our Building Maintenance Manager reports that the concrete steps on the north side have been replaced with nice new ramps. This has little impact on the visiting public, since we enter on the east or south side, but for deliveries of food and beer and other supplies, it is a most welcome improvement. Thanks to all who helped out, and especially to the folks from G & A rentals who lent us the jackhammer. Boy, that was appreciated!
We at the Legion want to welcome everyone to  join us for fellowship. Each person who walks through our doors is important, and it is important that we volunteers and staff make them feel important. Here are a few tips:
Key Principles of Hospitality -- S.E.R.V.I.C.E.
The word SERVICE represents the following 7 key guiding principles in creating a more welcoming and hospitable Legion environment.
S – Smile
E – Enquire; ask “how are you”, “what can I do for you today?”, etc.
R – Remember; make an effort to recall visitors’ names and greet them when they return
V -- Very nice to see you
I – Introduce yourself
C – Connect; find some common ground for casual conversation
E -- Entice to join/return; your welcoming attitude is a great incentive for visitors to return!
