November 2015 Newsletter

Members’ Night on September 19 kicked off Legion Week 2015. New Members were initiated, and other Members received service pins and other recognition. Entertainment afterward was provided by Marvells. A good time was had by all. Other Legion Week events were Church Parade on Sept. 20 and the annual Seniors’ Tea . Thanks to all of our willing workers for arranging these activities.

The patio has been a big hit this summer. Thanks to the Members who donated their time (and muscle!) to set it up. And to run the barbecues, even until the end of September.

Thanks to volunteers who turned out on October 18 and before, to make the annual Fall Supper such a success. Special thanks are due to our wonderful (and last-minute) convenor.

Oct. 28 is the cut-off date to place orders from the Legion Branch Catalogue. Only one copy has been provided. It is available at the bar in the Club Room; please place your orders there.

Oct. 31 there will be a Halloween Dance in the Club Room, with music by Al Andrusko. There will be  cash prizes for costumes in various categories.

What’s next? Well, it is Poppy Drive time, of course! Soon the supplies will be brought out of storage, ready to be assembled and delivered on October 30. The campaign runs until November 11. All of the monies raised by RCL Branch 52 Stonewall are contributed back into the community, but the poppy monies have a special designation. These funds are employed to directly benefit our veterans (of wars, and of peacetime service) and their families. Pick up a poppy. Make a generous donation. You’ll be glad you did!

In the meantime, the Branch and the Ladies’ Auxiliary are preparing for the Vets’ Supper. The date for this is November 7; cocktails will be served at 5:30, with dinner at 6:30 followed by speeches and awards. Entertainment will follow in the Club Room, provided by Flashbacks.

Remember to renew your membership! Early Bird pricing ends on November 30.

Our Sports Director Howard Hilstrom reports that there were 17 teams out for Cribbage on Thursday night. Play begins at 7:00 sharp; don’t be late! But do come out and join us; there is room for more!
Chase the Queen of Clubs continues to take place on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are one dollar each. The draw is made at 8:30. As of October 14, the prize money was up to $701.50. Come on out tonight (October 21); you could be a winner!
